Our Story

For over 51 years, Southeast Seattle Senior Center , fondly known as SESSC,  located in the Rainier Valley, has been a neighborhood activity center that addresses the social, educational, and health needs of aging adults and the community at large.  Over 600 seniors living on Beacon Hill, Skyway, Rainier Valley, Renton and the Central Area are active participants at our Center.  Our activities are designed to include all physical stages of aging such as exercise programs, computer classes, weaving and quilting classes, card clubs, line dance classes, Spanish classes, recreational trips, and much more.

The B&B Diner, SESSC’s in-house eatery, serves hot meals five days a week, including special meals like our monthly Birthday Lunches. The diversity of zip code 98118 is reflected in our membership and in classes geared to better serve our colorful community.  SESSC is a member of the Rainier Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Rainier Lions Club.

The mission of Southeast Seattle Senior Center is to promote the emotional, social and physical well being of aging adults.  We provide a variety of programs and activities designed to enhance the lives of seniors in our Community.

History

Southeast Seattle Senior Center, a non-profit senior center formerly known as Lee House, was founded in 1961. The senior center has been housed at our current location on Holly Street since 1986.

From the beginning, Lee House programs emphasized a multi-service approach to seniors living independently. This approach continues today, offering a good variety of programs and services to meet the needs of the community and hosting fun and meaningful events where the community can meet!

Today, Southeast Seattle Senior center serves over 1200 seniors annually. We offer a variety of programs and services at affordable cost to seniors young and old. Volunteers are the heart of our center – if you are looking for a way to fulfill your day, we have a place for you.

Visit our senior center to experience the rich diversity of the Rainier Valley. We welcome you at the Southeast Seattle Senior Center where active older adults gather for Fun, Fitness, Friendship, and Learning.

AARP Driver Safety Course

Fridays, November 9 and 16, 9:00am – 1:00pm
Cost: $15.00 AARP Members, $20.00 Non-AARP Members
Location: SESSC Wellness Room  Facilitator: Marge Lutton
Now is the time to refresh and enhance your driving skills.  This is a great course to get you “up to speed.”  Completion of the course may make you eligible for a discount on your auto insurance. Each session is a complete course. Sign up at the Front Desk.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions

Get the support you need. Find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, and discover better nutrition and exercise choices. Understand treatment choices, while learning better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health. If you have a condition such as: diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety, or depression, the Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop can help you take charge of your life.
